Understanding the Pomsky breed
Since Pomskies are a designer cross breed, the genetic makeup is much healthier than a purebred. The healthier traits are due to their mixed genes, meaning Pomskies are less likely to have received a large amount of any particular genetics from the Siberian Husky or the Pomeranian. Because of this the Pomsky has a lower rate of health conditions, such as hip dysplasia, knee problems, spinal diseases, different types of cancers, heart disease, and other health conditions that purebred dogs tend to carry from generation to generation.
An intelligent, active companion combining the striking look of the Siberian Husky with the affectionate, family-friendly scale of the Pomeranian. Pomskies are a beautiful crossbreed and can come in many different colors and unique patterns. We love their wild look, resembling little wolves and foxes! This amazing designer breed has beautiful soft fur and an adorable curled fluffy tail.
Predictable size categories
A Pomsky is a mix between two breeds, the Siberian Husky and the Pomeranian. There are several different types of Pomskies, meaning generational ratios and percentages of genetics depending on the parents.
F1 Pomsky - is created by breeding a female Siberian Husky and a male Pomeranian, making a Pomsky puppies genetics 50/50.
F1b Pomsky - is a F1 Pomsky bred to either a purebred Pomeranian or a purebred Husky, making their puppies 25% of one and 75% of the other. The F1b Pomsky pups are much smaller and fluffier when bred to a purebred Pomeranian, making the F1b a perfect lap dog!
F2 Pomsky - is created when a female Pomsky and a male Pomsky are bred together, making the ratios vary from pup to pup since both parents are 50/50. Currently 3 members of our pack are F2 Pomskies.
F2b Pomsky - is created when an F2 Pomsky and a purebred Pomeranian or a Husky are bred together. Compared to an F2 Pomsky, F2b Pomskies are either smaller when one parent is a purebred Pomeranian or larger when one parent is a purebred Husky. Currently 1 of our pack members is a F2b Pomsky with one parent being a purebred Pomeranian. Since F2b are further down the Pomsky lineage, their size is more predicatable than a F1b Pomsky.
F3 Pomsky - is created when a female F2 Pomsky and a male F2 Pomsky are bred together. This is the point when a Pomsky's physical traits, coat and temperament become very predicatable. Starting in 2027 we will be producing F3 Pomskies!
The lineage continues from here, but you get the picture by now! Although Pomskies can be bred to become smaller in size with each new generation, this is only true when a purebred Pomeranian is used to accomplish this as the lineage continues. Because this is not a garauntee, Pomskies have both generational identifiers and size identifiers. Pomskies range from toy to standard sizes, and more recently even micro size has been introduced!
